1:8 Scale Ferrari Testarossa

Die cast by Pocher

The project... Take an 1/8 scale die cast model make it R/C, make the lights work and not see the difference when sitting on the table.

First design an aluminum 1/8" thick platform that can fit inside the existing vehicle and not be seen, providing the mounting points for all suspension and drive components.

The donor car for suspension parts and drive assemblies was a Team Associated TC3 Pan Car. The main components of the TC3 used are, wheel carriers, differential and coil over shocks. New wheels CNC machined from aluminum copy the Ferrari on the outside and the TC3 axle mate pattern on the inside with the correct offset for mounting.

Steering is handled by an Airtronics 94358 high torque servo.

Here are the new TC3 Billet machined A frames stretched the required amount for the width of the 1/8 scale Ferrari.

The rear suspension with a new oil filled coil over shocks, the springs are rated at 35 pounds to carry the massive die cast body and new drive components.

A new high torque low RPM motor (6,000 RPM)

Here is a view of all the components with the new pan and drive components all of which need to be fit into the die cast kit and still look like the original model in the upper left.

The first fitting of the pan to the body.

The wheel base of the new pan matches the wheel openings on the body perfectly.

First test fit of components... The ESC with BEC, dual E switch to control the lights. The original plastic shock tower support has been replaced with an aluminum unit.

View from the rear shows the battery charger plug receptacle in the center (red) main on/off switch to the left.

The stock die cast model engine compartment with plastic motor.

The static Ferrari Testarossa on the left and the R/C version on the right.

With the deck lid closed static and R/C look the same.

The only noticeable difference between stock and R/C: working lights and real aluminum wheels.

A view from the bottom..... the original front plastic lower skirt in place over the aluminum pan. The original belly pan is also retained.

Under hood, all original

The full interior and dash board undisturbed by the R/C components.

The stock die cast static Ferrari and the complete R/C version

The completed model with battery and R/C components weighs in at 18 pounds and drives very well with good steering response due to the heavy duty steering servo. At 18 pounds you would not want to race it as stopping it is not a good as the real Ferrari. This would make a great pace car for starting R/C races. If you have one of the Ferrari Testarossa models we can convert your for $3,900.00.
